Rick Wisecarver Glazed Earthenware Portrait Vase, 2000
Item Details
Rick Wisecarver began his artistic practices as a teenager working primarily with oils until his mother encouraged him to paint on pottery. Wisecarver’s hometown, Zanesville, Ohio, was the pottery capital of the world in the early 20th century. Wisecarver studied this history and experimented with techniques to duplicate older glazing methods. He opened WIHOA Art Pottery in the early 1970s in Zanesville, and became a well-known artist for animal, floral, and native American subjects on pottery.
