Lajos Markos was based in New York and is known for his figural paintings including portraits, genre scenes, and battle scenes. He studied and traveled throughout Europe, which involved long stays in Italy and Hungary. Among his most notable portraits have been those of Robert F. Kennedy; the former Mayoress of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dona Gelicia; famous cellist Pablo Casals; and other prominent officials in Washington, D.C., Ohio, and various Latin-American cities.

- examined under UV light; lightly scattered scuffs and flecks of accretions to paint; abrasions, scratches, scuffs, and accretions to frame.
