- painting examined under UV light; overpainting and inpainting throughout; notable overpainting along the left sight edge, over patches to the lower corners, right leg, right forefinger, and to sleeve near right elbow; notable inpainting throughout the coat, beard, and hair; abrasions to left of the shoulder, to the righthand sleeve, and to the far right of the figure near the edge of the coat; craquelure throughout; minor chips of paint loss to the overpainting to the lower left near sight edge; canvas relined; chips and minor cracks throughout the molding of the frame; abrasions and gilt loss throughout the frame.
