Multimedia artist Ed Templeton is especially known for his photographs documenting street life and people in Huntington Beach, California, intimate images of his wife, and paintings capturing the psychological complexity of suburbia. As a skateboard prodigy in the late 1980s, he used disposable cameras to shoot his photography while touring for competitions. As his art developed, he began using archival materials, painting, and drawing to capture the banality, ugliness, and beauty of the everyday world. Many of his portraits effectively depict the subjective emotionality of his subjects. Throughout his career, Templeton’s work has been exhibited and collected by numerous institutions including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, and the International Center of Photography in New York among many others. He was also included in the traveling exhibition Beautiful Losers, which was accompanied by a documentary.
