Robert Fabe grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he first studied painting with his father, an amateur painter. He went on to the Art Academy of Cincinnati where he studied under Herman Wessel, John E. Weis, and Meyer Abel. He received a scholarship to study at the Art Students League in New York, returning to Cincinnati in 1940 to open his own studio. After a brief stint in the Armed Services, serving in Europe, he returned to Cincinnati in 1945 where he taught at the Art Academy while maintaining his studio practice. In 1958 he joined the faculty of the University of Cincinnati of Design, Architecture, and Art, retiring in 1987. Fabe’s work was widely exhibited during his lifetime and resides in the permanent collections of the Cincinnati Art Museum, Miami University, University of Cincinnati, the Dayton Art Institute, and the Butler Art Institute.
