Original Maximo Caballero Oil on Canvas Painting
Item Details
An exquisite and highly sought-after original oil on canvas painting signed to the lower left-hand corner by well listed Spanish painter of antiquity, Maximo Caballero (1867-1951). It is additionally noted, just below the signature, that the painting was executed in the ever-artful city of light, Paris, France. This is an exceedingly errorless portrayal of a flirtation between a Spanish swordsman and his object of desire, a barmaid. She is taking her leave of his company, tray in hand, as he chides earnestly for her to stay. His expression speaks to his intention, and hers to discomfort, perhaps that’s feigned. The situational atmosphere is an axiom that pervades time or place, that could be witnessed in any modern bar room where the sexes mingle. The brushwork is seamless, and the quality of light conveyed effectively. Truly a magnificent work of art, worthy of the finest collectors. The painting is immaculately contained in a superlative wooden frame with plaster gild trim, molded in a pierced motif that kindly reflects Victorian grandiosity.
Condition
- the surface of the painting does exhibit light crackling consistent with age, but is otherwise in superb condition, the frame has been restored to the upper left hand corner, the color differs only slightly.
