Contemporary artist Tracy Casagrande Clancy specializes in mixed media work that explores spirituality, religion, and personal and communal histories. As a former pediatric grief therapist, she is particularly interested in beliefs about death and grief in various cultures and ethnic groups throughout the world. Fascinated how these phenomenons manifest in people’s psyches, bodies, traditions, and world views, these interests of hers and her professional background resonate in her reflective artistic expression.

Clancy received a degree in Fine Art at the Savannah College of Art & Design. She returned to school to receive undergraduate and graduate degrees in Counseling, Social Work, and Sociology, which fostered her career as a therapist for children and their families experiencing trauma, crisis, death, and grief. Twelve years ago, Clancy became a full-time artist, working in a variety of mediums including encaustic, sculpture, collage, cold wax, pastel, and found objects among other materials. Using a blow torch, she particularly enjoys working with encaustic, and finds inspiration in encaustic artists, as the nature of the medium is unpredictable and a challenge to control. Some of her influences include New York-based artists Simone Leigh and Monica Cook, both known for their mixed media sculpture. Throughout her career, Clancy has exhibited her work at the Miami Art Basel, and various galleries in Paris, New York City, Chicago, and Boston, among other cities throughout the American Midwest. Currently doing a residency in Italy, Clancy’s local studio is located in Cincinnati’s Pendleton Art Center, a warehouse home to more than 200 artist studios.
