Adam Hayward grew up in Southern Ohio, immersed in nature on his family’s vineyard and the surrounding forest, and intrigued by the prints of mystical landscapes by Golden Age Illustrator Maxfield Parrish hanging on the walls of his family home. Both would later become instrumental to his own artistic practice. Hayward earned a BFA from Miami University in graphic design in 1993, as well as a MA in art education from the same university in 1998. After a period of teaching, he shifted to focus on painting full time, developing a body of work influenced by early Chinese painting, and their ability to capture nature through controlled gesture. Hayward’s work has been widely exhibited across the United States and Virgin Islands, including Michael McCormick Gallery, Taos, Miller Gallery, Cincinnati, and Walsh Metal Works Gallery, Christiansted.
