From Northwestern India, pichhwai are large-scale paintings usually on cloth meant to hang behind the shrines of the Hindu god Krishna. Other than as items of worship, these paintings are also meant to serve as a means of storytelling for the illiterate.

Condition

- surface abrasions throughout; scattered marks and stains, most notably to left edge; backing board is slightly bowed; minor nicks to frame.
