Item Details

Mark Bercier (American, born 1950)
Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner, 2011
Gouache painting on paper
Signed to lower left

Based in New Orleans, Mark Bercier is known for creating abstract figural compositions that often juxtapose words and motifs, as he is interested in the communication and interplay of language and imagery. In the past decade, he has employed “Baby” as a recurring theme in his work, which he identifies as a purist symbol of hope and innocence, inspired by a self-portrait his daughter drew at age five. Bercier’s work has been sold at various auctions and exhibited by multiple galleries including the B.E.E. Galleries (New Orleans, LA) and the Redbud Gallery (Houston, TX), among others.
