Considered one of the masters of 20th-century photography, Weston’s photographic ouvre includes a variety of genres; however he is perhaps most celebrated for his images of the American West and abstract imagery. Significantly, he was the first photographer to receive a Guggenheim Fellowship, and was friends with a number of influential artists such as Alfred Stieglitz, Paul Strand, Charles Sheeler, Georgia O’Keeffe, Diego Rivera David Siqueiros, Jose Orozco, and his lover Tina Modotti, to name a few. His work has been exhibited and collected by countless institutions including the International Center of Photography; the Museum of Modern Art; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Tate; and the Smithsonian Institution, among many others.
