Lu Kimmel was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1905, As he matured, he was exposed to turn of the century changing scene of events. He studied with William Merritt Chase, and also studied illustration.

As an illustrator, he dealt with a variety of themes and subjects. Specializing in figure and genre subjects, his work ran the gauntlet from western adventure to pin ups.

- abrasions and scratches to the frame; painting is insecurely attached to the frame; paint chipping, stains, and scratches throughout; examined under UV light, minimal inpainting throughout; crackle and craquelure present; stretcher abrasions and warping of the canvas; patches to the canvas; three punctures present to the lower portion.
