The photograph depicts Oscar Robertson in his University of Cincinnati uniform on the college’s basketball court, but Cincinnati on the jersey has been hand-altered to read USA. The photograph is thought to reference Robertson’s naming to the U.S. team for the 1959 Pan-American games and to inspire the life-size sculpture at the University of Cincinnati.
