Russell Secrest was born in Muncie, Indiana into a family of artists. Russell earned an Applied Science degree from the School for American Craftsmen, and then followed his brother to the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. After meeting his wife, Frances, the two moved to Petoskey, Michigan where they opened the Artisans Gallery. Russell Secrest is known for modernist designs ranging from Secrest Sterling jewelry and kinetic sculptures to large-scale public art including the 1975 Harris Bank Fountain in Chicago.
