Antique Chinese Duanjian Short-Sword with Scabbard

Item Details

An antique Chinese short-sword, also known as a duanjian. Likely from Qing Dynasty in the late 19th century. The pommel and cross guard are cast brass, while the handle is fluted wood. It has a 16’ double edged blade. The beauty of this piece is in the scabbard. It is constructed of wood, coated in tortoiseshell, and adorned in brass accents. The decorations on the brass depict a maze-like circular design, which is the Chinese symbol for longevity and flying bats, which symbolize good luck.
