Early 20th Century Stewart Professional Acoustic Guitar with Case
Item Details
An early 20th century S.S. Stewart Professional acoustic guitar with a felt lined black hardboard case. This is a wonderful instrument, with a solid mahogany body and neck, mother of pearl insets between frets, six steel strings, wood ladder style bracing to interior, and two ‘f’ shaped (violin style) sound holes instead of the more common round sound hole. Tucked into the strings at the top fret there is a pick with the brand name ‘Nick Lucas’ inscribed to top; Lucas was a popular American singer and jazz guitarist in the 1920s and ‘30s. There is as S.S. Stewart company logo at the top of the headstock: it reads ’S. S. Stewart Professional, Philadelphia PA, New York’. While the f-shaped sound holes are more commonly associated with archtop guitars, this instrument is a flat top guitar with a beautiful and rich tone; we welcome you to preview and play it for yourself on April 19th from 10am to 1pm.

Condition
Good overall, however there are scuffs to top from pick, and one screw needs to be replaced to steel string support at base. The neck would bnefit from reinforcing where it connects to the body of the guitar, and like all vintage guitars, it may benefit from a neck reset in future. The case has scuffs and wear from use, and some tearing at hinges but is still serviceable.
