Grace Sprague was a fashion illustrator from New York affiliated with Hollywood fashion designer, Edith Head, during her time at Paramount Studios. Sprague was brought on by Head in 1954 to work on Alfred Hitchcock’s film “Rear Window” starring Grace Kelly and James Stewart. She became Head’s favored collaborator due to her quick sketching style, allowing the designer to create multiple variations of each costume. After “Rear Window,” Sprague continued to work with Edith Head until 1963. Sprague’s illustrations are included in the design process for multiple blockbuster films, including “Sabrina” (1954) and “Funny Face” (1957) starring Audrey Hepburn, the latter of which won the 1958 Academy Award for Best Costume Design.
