This limited Edition de Grand Luxe set of The Human Comedy: Scenes of Military and Political Life Vol. I–II by Honoré de Balzac was published by George Barrie & Son of Philadelphia in 1898 exclusively for subscribers. They are fully bound in blue morocco with gilt inlaid floral designs, as well as gilt doublures and moiré silk linings. These volumes are numbered 6 of 7 and include numerous etchings in four states: Japan vellum, India paper, papier de Chine, and Whatman paper finished in watercolors (one each). Volume I contains The Chouans and Volume II contains A Passion in the Dessert, An Episode Under the Reign of Terror, and A Dark Affair.
