André Beaudin was a French artist and a prominent member of the School of Paris Society, which revolutionized Modern art in the early 20th century. Born in 1895, Beaudin received formal education at the École des Art Décoratifs in Paris but did not pursue a career in the arts until after military service in World War I. While the young artist was influenced by Cubism, he is best noted for his breaking away from this movement in the 1930s in opposition to what he considered to be intellectual stagnation in the style. Prior to his death in 1979, Beaudin’s work was exhibited extensively across Europe and the Americas, and in 1962 he was awarded the Grand Prix National des Arts by the government of France.
