German photographer and photojournalist, Thomas Hoepker, is especially known for his vibrant color photography predominantly shot with Leica cameras. After studying art history and archaeology, he worked as a photographer for Münchner Illustrierte and Kristall from 1960 to 1963, then worked for Stern magazine as a photo-reporter in 1964. It was this same year that Magnum began distributing his archive photographs. From 1978 to 1981, Hoepker served as the Director of Photography for the American edition of Geo, then worked as the Art Director for Stern from 1987 to 1989. He became a full member of Magnum in 1989 and served as the President of Magnum Photos from 2003 until 2006. Throughout his career, he has been the recipient of several awards including the Leica Hall of Fame induction and his work has been exhibited at several institutions, such as the Kunst und Gewerbe Museum, the Maya Kunsthalle Cologne, the Leica Gallery Prague, and the Bildhalle Museum among others.
