Jazz Hands Jo’s (nom de plume) is a nomadic folk painter who grew up in rural areas throughout the United States, from western deserts to southern marsh. While meeting many other artists on her travels, Jazz Hands gained her name by quickly catching on to the skill of painting from her peers. Now a recluse, the artist uses painting as a method of connecting to her roots. Her paintings may present themselves as naive or child-like, however, they are often metaphors of her beliefs. Following her faith, Jo uses anthropomorphic imagery to speak to her audience through acrylic paintings.
