Known for his abstract compositions and poetic landscapes, Edward Corbett began his art training at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco. He often titled his work based on the location that inspired them and often executed them with subtle tonal gradations. After serving in the army for World War II, Corbett returned to California and taught at the San Francisco State College and later the California School of Fine Arts. Thereafter, he moved to Taos in 1951 where he lived for two years before relocating and teaching at Mount Holyoke College for nine years. His work has been exhibited and collected by numerous institutions including the Walker Art Center, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Smithsonian Institution, among others.
