Royal Academy artist, William Flint, is best known for his illustrations of females and dancers. Flint began his studies at Daniel Stewart’s College and later at the Edinburgh Institution of Art. Afterward, he spent six years as a lithographic apprentice. Flint moved to London in search of an independent career and gained a post as a medical illustrator, all while continuing to study art at the Heatherley School of Fine Art. He also became an artist for The Illustrated London News. Flint would go on to illustrate many editions such as The Canterbury Tales, King Solomon’s Mines, Savoy Operas and others, as well as authoring his own edition of short stories. Flint was elected watercolor president of Britain’s Royal Society of Painters and knighted in 1947. He was an active artist until his passing in 1969. Flint’s illustrations can be found in many collections.
