Pittsburgh native, Hankin is a realist painter who received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute. He has maintained a teaching career and held positions at Bronx Community College, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and Carnegie Mellon University. Hankin is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Pittsburgh. As a member of the Associated Artist and Pittsburgh Plan for Art, he is a working artist in his community and often exhibits in solo and group exhibitions.
