Hill, MCClurg and Harper were among the legendary fighter pilots of the Black Sheep Squadron, Marine Fighting Squadron 214 (VMF-214), flying F4U Corsairs under the command of Major “Gramps” Boyington, the squadron based in the Solomon Islands during WWII was also referred to Boyington’s Bastards. |
