Mural design for Urban Walls: Cincinnati, 1970
Margaret Wenstrup is known for her modernist style and Op-Art geometric compositions, often rendered with repetitious delineations that recall the work of Outsider and Folk artists. She graduated from the Art Academy of Cincinnati and studied under celebrated modern artists such as Noel Martin and later under Ralston Crawford after moving to New York. Her geometric compositions reflect her interest in weaving which she also studied at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. Wenstrup’s work has been collected and exhibited by multiple institutions including the National Gallery of Art, Cincinnati’s Contemporary Arts Center, and the Huntington Museum of Art, among others.
