Obsolete Southern Banknotes and Confederate War Bond, Mid 19th Century. This lot consists of an 1861 $1000 Confederate War Bond from the State of Georgia with most of its payment coupons in tact; two Eastern Bank of Alabama $5 banknotes; an 1859 Merchants and Planters Bank of Savannah, Georgia $2 banknote; and an 1861 Bank of the Commonwealth of Richmond, Virginia $5 banknote. The bond and notes all exhibit toning with the notes appearing very lightly circulated. The notes have faded hand written signatures and serials numbers except for the Alabama notes which appear unissued, un-numbered and unsigned. Each note measures approximately 7 1/8′ × 3 1/8’.
