Selden studied painting and drawing under her mentor Frank Duvenck at the McMicken School of Design, now known as the Art Academy of Cincinnati. With Duveneck’s endorsement, she began to exhibit at the Covington Art Club in 1890 and was honored for her landscapes and portraits. Within two years, her works were shown next to work by renowned artists such as Edward Henry Potthast, Charles Henry Sharp, Henry Farny, and more. Selden was instrumental in establishing the Women’s Art Club of Cincinnati and served as its president. As a world-traveler, she captured landscapes and genre scenes of the country she visited.
