An ‘Illustrated Catalogue De Luxe of the Very Valuable Art Property Collected by the Late Robert Hoe Of New York’ published in a limited edition of 200 by the American Art Association, New York 1911, of which this is copy #14. The large and thick catalogue has paper covered boards with a gilt embossed emblem in the center stating ‘Haut Et Plus Haut’ meaning ‘Higher and Higher’. The last known sale of this catalogue was at Christie’s in 2007 for the price realized $1020.00. Robert Hoe (1839-1909) was an American businessman and a founder of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He had amassed a collection of fine art, rare books, silver, miniatures, manuscripts, and art objects valued at over several million dollars at the time of his death. The auction in February of 1911 netted $129, 195.00. This extremely large tome is a fantastic resource for all things considered fine art and a rare glimpse of a collection never to have been rivaled.
