"The Bachstitz Gallery Collection" Volumes I and III

A lot of ‘The Bachstitz Gallery Collection’, volumes I and III, published as limited editions of 300 in the late 1920s in Berlin by Albert Frisch. Volume I is numbered 83 and Volume III is number 70. The elephant folios are quarter bound in white vellum with beige cloth covered boards and gilt stamped titles. Volume I catalogs the collection’s paintings and tapestries while volume III catalogs objects of art and paintings. Each book contains full page heliogravures with descriptive text on the tissue guards. Kurt Walter Bachstitz (German 1882-1949) established an important art dealership in the Hague in 1920. His second wife was sister to Walter Hofer who became an art buyer for Herman Goring, infamous for helping Hitler rise to power and establishing the Gestapo. Both he and Hitler had an insatiable appetite for acquiring art, many times at the expense of the Jewish victims of the Holocaust.

Condition

, some soiled marks (mostly from dusty dirt) on the boards. Interior pages are clean, the binding is tight and there is only slight wear at the edges and corners.
