Hungarian artist and Holocaust survivor Yossi Stern was known as ‘the painter of Jerusalem’. He received his formal art training at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design and the Royal Academy of Art in London. Stern particularly focused on portraying images of the ‘new Jew’ or the modern Jew. Also known for his illustrations, he produced for a number of newspapers, books, and publications in Israel. For more than 20 years, he was a professor of graphic arts at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design.
