Item Details

William A. Slaughter (Texas, 1923 – 2003)
Untitled (winter landscape), late 20th century
Oil painting on canvas
Signed to lower left

Largely self-taught Texas artist William A Slaughter wore many hats in his lifetime including air force serviceman during World War II and longtime Lutheran Minister. He first began painting while preaching in Mexico and began to sell and exhibit his work upon returning to Dallas, Texas. His Texas landscapes are his most popular, especially among his congregation who bought many of his paintings. Slaughter also painted still lifes, portraits, wildlife scenes, and figurative landscapes. Eventually, Slaughter made the life-changing decision to retire from the ministry to pursue art full-time. His works are now privately collected throughout the world.
