Eduardo Chillida was a Spanish Basque artist born in San Sebastián in 1924. Initially, a student of architecture at the University of Madrid, by 1947 Chillida had changed course to pursue a more artistic career in drawing and sculpture. Living under the repressive government of General Francisco Franco, he moved to Paris, for the liberal artistic environment and studied the works of Picasso and other artists thriving in Paris. He moved back to the Basque region of Spain in 1951 and created monumental sculptures, collected in museums and private collections throughout the world. Public installations by Eduardo Chillida can be found in Barcelona, Paris, Dallas, and Berlin.
