Additional Information | The consignor of this collection of Joseph Field letters obtained them decades ago. The years noted on some of the letters are from 1863 to the late 1880s. Joseph served as a Private, Sargent and his last ranking was Lieutenant, he served from 1862-1865. He served in the 46th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment and the 2nd Massachusetts Artillery Regiment. A small collection of his letters can be found at the University of Michigan’s Clements Library. |

- conditions vary; folds, stains and discoloration; some of the letters have faded; small tears; some letters may not be complete; foxing and toning to paper; chipped and worn edges.
