John Aldrich Ruthven studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and the Jack Storey Central Academy of Commercial Art. After graduating, Ruthven opened a commercial studio and started painting the realistic wildlife portraits he is known for today. Ruthven was a member of the Outdoor Writers Association, the Cincinnati Art Club and Art Director’s Club, the Cincinnati Artist’s Guild, and the National Audubon Society.

- artwork appears to be presented slightly off-center within the frame, with gaps visible between the edges of the sheet and the frame along the right side; light accretions and flecks of debris present between the print and the covering of frame; small gaps present at the corners between the bars of frame; spots of minor flaking and chipping to the paint and veneer of frame scattered throughout; light scratching, scuffing, discoloration, and loose debris to frame.
