Additional Information | Joseph F. Field served as a private, sergeant and his final rank, lieutenant, from 1862-1865. He served in the 46th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment and the 2nd Massachusetts Artillery Regiment. The lot includes personal letters and newspaper clippings. Some years noted range from 1863 to the late 1880s. Another small collection of his letters can be found at the University of Michigan’s Clements Library. |

- conditions vary; folds, stains and discoloration; some of the letters have faded; small tears; some letters may not be complete; foxing and toning to paper; chipped and worn edges.
