Joseph Ray York was born in North Carolina and showed an interest in art at a young age. He spent one year studying at Reinhardt College in Georgia before returning to North Carolina to study at Appalachian State University where he studied under Eric Purvis and Warren Cameron Dennis. His work has been widely exhibited across the United States and resides in numerous private collections.
