1947 Gold Mexican Centenario 50 Peso Coin. Originally issued in 1921 to celebrate the centennial anniversary of Mexican independence from Spain, this coin features the National Symbol of Mexico, the Aztec image of an an eagle perched on a cactus clutching a snake in its beak, to the obverse and Nike, the goddess of victory holding a wreath of laurels to the reverse. The obverse reads, ‘ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS,’ while the reverse reads ‘50 Pesos 37.5 Gr. ORO PURO,’ and the edge reads, ‘INDEPENCIA Y LIBERDAD.’ Mintage: 4,277,654. Metal Content: 90% gold, 10% copper. Diameter: 37 mm. Weight: 41.7 grams. Coin appears very lightly circulated.
