David Thimgan was a passionate maritime historian and California native. His parents were hobbyist painters and he was encouraged by his father to become a full-time artist at the age of twenty-three. Without a formal education, Thimgan used his historical knowledge of marine and maritime history with incredible research skills to create paintings based on early 19th century marine history with historical accuracy. He was a member of the American Society of Maritime Artists beginning in 1981 until his death. Thimgan’s artworks have been notably exhibited in the Mystic International, and the American Society of Maritime Artists National Exhibition.
