Original Sanford Brooks Watercolor on Paper Painting
Item Details
An original watercolor on paper painting by well-listed Cincinnati artist Sanford Mitchell ‘Samp’ Brooks (1915 – 1994). Brooks was an influential Ohioan graduating from Yale and gradually become an extremely important part of the then-booming steel industry. His wife was a watercolorist and in the 1950s he took it up as a hobby. He and his wife Florence ‘Ginny’ Hunsberger would go on to teach classes and workshops, perhaps most notably at the AAC. This painting features an image typical of the artist’s oeuvre, a number of sailboats sit docked at a woodland marina, most likely on Lake Erie. The watercolor is signed by the artist to the lower left and is presented in a butterscotch colored wooden frame with a single withe mat to edge.
Condition
- mild wear to frame edges.
