Born in San Diego, Briggs is known as a second-generation Abstract Expressionist artist. He s began his artistic studies at Rudolph Schaeffer School of Design after serving in the United States Army Air Forces. After World War II, Briggs returned to his art studies at the California School of Fine Arts under Mark Rothko and Clyfford Still. After graduating, Briggs co-founded Metart Galleries in San Francisco. He held teaching posts at the University of Florida, Yale University, and Pratt Institute, while extensively exhibition is expressive and geometric canvases. Many of his paintings are held in public collections including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

- slight yellowing to varnish; impact cracks to the upper and lower right; scattered areas of cracks to the paint and minor areas of craquelure along the outer edges of the painting; slight stretcher marks; minor abrasions and paint loss along the edges of the canvas at the wrap; negligible nicks to the frame.
