Hatten is known for painting abstract still lifes and landscapes, integrating mood, concept, visual elements, and drama. He was born in Wyoming and lived most of his life in Los Angeles. He was a teacher at Swinbourne College in Australia, and in California at East Los Angeles College and Citrus College.

- pinholes along the upper border of smallest chromogenic print; fading and color shifting to prints; slight curling to the edges.
