Joshua Meador was born in Mississippi in 1911, and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, graduating in 1935. He then moved to California where he had a notable career with Disney Productions, working as an animator, special effects artist, and animation director and helping to create such classics as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954), as well as the MGM science-fiction film Forbidden Planet (1956).
