As a member of the renowned Yoshida family, Chizuko’s work exhibits a connection between traditional Japanese art and modern art. She studied art and design under Fumio Kitaoka and later at the Hongo Art Institute. She was an active member of the Pacific Painting Society and Shuyōkai. After marrying Hodaka Yoshida in 1953, Chizuko decided to focus on woodblock printmaking. The couple traveled the world and Chizuko found inspiration for her woodblocks on their travels. Her images depict a large scope including abstraction, geometric landscapes, and naturalist butterfly motifs. Her woodblocks gained her a membership in the Japanese Print Association and she helps establish the Women’s Printmakers Association. Chizuko’s woodblocks are highly collected and many are held in the collections of Toyko Museum of Art, British Museum, Yokohama Museum of Art, and more
