Nancy ‘Nan’ Goldin is a celebrated American photographer best-known for her work that explores provocative subjects and moments of intimacy, particularly that of LGBT culture, the HIV crisis, and the opioid epidemic. Born in Washington, D.C., she began photographing as a teenager, focusing on imagery that was socially and politically informed. Influenced by the work of Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin, Diane Arbus and August Sander, many of her photos capture herself and her surrounding community in vulnerable moments, published in her book Nan Goldin: I’ll Be Your Mirror. Goldin’s work has been exhibited and collected by multiple institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, among many others.
