This lot features Mythical Kingdoms: Broadway and Hollywood, an unpublished manusript by Samuel Marx Edited by Robert Murray Davis and Sara Greene Marx. In addition to the manuscript is an original photo of Samuel Marx, Unit Manager Jack Gertzman, Director S. Sylvan Simon on the set of “Son of Lassie”; a “Sam Marx” Valentine cartoon and an original caricature art by Alex Gard of Sam Marx. Sam passed away in 1992. Found with the manuscript is a collection of original photographs that were to be used. The photos are as listed: a small photo of actress Pricilla Dean riding a horse, “Pricilla Dean ‘Under 2 Flags” Oxnard, Calif.”; a picture of Sam with Lassie and Rudd Weatherwax owner and trainer of Lassie; Sam with S. Sylvan Simon, Director of “Son of Lassie”; two photos taken from the set of a silent movie, one showing an officer kissing the hand of a woman and a calvary charging, one can see the camerman shooting the action; a photo of Sam sitting with Edna Ferber (novelist), Constance Collier, Ida Kouerman (L. B. Mayer’s Political Assistant), Chico Marx, Louella Parsons and others at the MGM commissary; a photo of Sam with Dr. Henry T. Wensel on the set of the “atom bomb project”; Sam with General Groves (Manhattan Project) and Norm Taurog, director (“The Beginning or The End” is written after Taurog’s name, although he did not direct that film); a photo of actors Richard Dix and Helene Chadwick in a scene from Quicksands; a photo of Sam with actress Anita Page; Sam with Laraine Day on the set of A Yank on the Burma Road; Sam standing next to a bi-plane, “Flight to Palm Springs” is written on the back; Sam on the set of “Grounds for Marriage” with Kathryn Grayson and director R.Z. Leonard; a color photo of Sam in a group with Elizabeth Taylor, David Chasman, Roddy McDowall, and Sidney (last name illegible); Sam with agent/producer Paul Kohner in Milan; Sam sitting on a couch holding a script; Sam talking to producer John Hodiak on the set of A Lady Without Passport; Sam at a “cocktail party in London” talking to John McGregor and another gentleman (not identified); “Priscella Dean at Universal 1920 in Costume for ‘Under Two Flags’ photo by Sam Marx”; a large group photo of Sam “on the set ‘Girl’s School’ Columbia Front Director John Brahm with Nan Grey, Ann Shirley, Peggy Moran, Margaret Tallichet”; a group photo of actors on the set of “New Moon”, 1930; and a 1926 group photo of the Laemmie Family (producer Carl Sr. and Jr. are shown).
