Leonor Fini was born in Argentina and is known for her provocative, fantastical, and surrealist paintings, drawings, prints, set designs, and illustrations. Most of Fini’s career was spent in Paris working among other artists such as Max Ernst, André Breton, and George Balanchine. Fini flipped the traditional and restricted roles of women as artistic muses by depicting androgynous men, morbid fantasies, and scenes of desire from a woman’s perspective. Her work is housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and the Museum of Sex, New York.
