David Edward Byrd was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and is known for his musical and rock posters featuring famous musicians such as Prince, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, and The Who. Byrd moved to New York City after receiving his BFA and MFA from Carnegie-Mellon University where he studied painting, design, and printmaking. In NYC he aided in establishing the multimedia collective Fantasy Unlimited with friend Peter Nevard and later became the poster and program designer for the Fillmore East in 1968. Byrd’s work is featured in many iconic rock posters, illustrations, and style guides, including style guides for the first three films of the Harry Potter series at Warner Brothers.
