Item Details

Peter Robert Keil (German, born 1942)
Matador, 1975
Acrylic painting over charcoal on paper
Signed to the lower right
Bowen Art Reserve certificate of authenticity and two photocopied certificates with printed signatures to the verso

Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miró. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
