Born to an artist father, Kosa was a very talented and well-trained painter. He studied at the Prague Academy, California Art Institute, and École des Beaux-Arts. Throughout his career, he mastered many different artistic styles including, plein-air, symbolism, abstraction, and more. He may be most known for his modernist landscapes and portraits. Kosa exhibited extensively on a national level and was nationally awarded. Kosa spent over 30 years as the art director of scenic and special effects for 20th Century Fox. In 1963, he won the Oscar in Special Effects for his work in the film Cleopatra.
